U.S. Sen. Chris Coons and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz were seeing double when they met in Washington, D.C., this week and went on social media to share their mirror image with the world. Scholz met with President Joe Biden as well as members of Congress, where he and Coons posed for the lighthearted image shared on their respective accounts on X, formerly Twitter. Scholz was in Washington to emphasize the stakes of the Ukraine conflict for the U.S., Europe and others. Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this week repeated his claim that the February 2022 invasion was intended to protect his nation’s interests. “Without the support of United States, and without the support of the European states, Ukraine will have not a chance to defend its own country,” Scholz said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has approved President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency's air pollution office just as the agency is set to finalize rules over climate-changing emissions from power plants and cars and trucks. Joe Goffman is a longtime EPA official who has headed the air and radiation office on an acting basis since Biden took office three years ago. Goffman's 2022 nomination for the air post, one of the top jobs at EPA, lapsed last year without a Senate vote. She called the Clean Power Plan “a direct shot at American energy production" and an attempt to shut down coal- and gas-fired power plants, including those in her home state. An EPA plan to curb greenhouse gas emissions from power plants is little more than the "second iteration of the Clean Power Plan,'' Capito said.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris was fed up. Harris left the event railing at the stigma women face for doing so, a staffer told CNN. The shift in posture, many close to the White House say, has also been helped by one of Biden’s closest advisers, Anita Dunn. “The president and vice president cannot both be bouncing around the country doing fundraisers all the time. Long one of the Democratic Party’s most moderate voices on abortion, Biden has reckoned with personal qualms rooted in his Catholic faith.

Senate Republicans and Sen. Joe Manchin voted to roll back an EPA regulation on truck pollution. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna argued it wouldn't have passed had Sen. Dianne Feinstein been present. Senate Republicans and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin took advantage of Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein's ongoing medical leave to roll back a significant environmental regulation on Wednesday. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna argued in a tweet on Thursday that Feinstein's prolonged absence from the Senate has repeatedly blocked Democrats' ability to succeed in crucial votes, including the EPA rule vote. Supporters of the EPA rule say it's a reasonable and cost-efficient change that's well-worth the lives it's expected to improve and save.
Under the legislation — which still has a long road to becoming law — the debt ceiling would rise by just $1.5 trillion, or until March 31, 2024, depending on whichever comes first. Democratic senators insisted on Wednesday that the House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate. "I don't think it will have any impact on what happens in the Senate," Sen. Chris Coons, a Delaware Democrat, told Insider of the House bill on Wednesday afternoon. But GOP Sen. Ron Johnson told Insider that he thinks House Republicans "are doing the right thing." That means that both parties need to come to an agreement on an approach to raise the debt ceiling before the country hurdles into a default, expected early this summer.
As the oldest sitting president, he's raising concerns about how long he can continue governing. Republicans — including Trump — have gleefully seized on Biden's verbal misadventures, such as when he called his vice president "President Harris." President Joe Biden drives the Ford's new all-electric F-150 Lightning in Dearborn, Michigan. Ruggerio described the idea that Joe Biden is diminished or can't remember things as "bull crap." Cox said that while he thinks Biden is "still Joe" and still capable, he worries that Biden's age is a problem.
His committee oversees surface transportation, and he loves trains, just like "Amtrak Joe." "Then they named it after Joe Biden, and my staff was so ticked off. Sen. Thomas Carper and then-Vice President Joe Biden speak at the former GM Boxwood Plant in October 2009 in Wilmington, Delaware. Tom Carper and Chris Coons speak to reporters after meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House in February, 2021. As he left, "Tell Joe Biden we love him," the ticket counter attendant said.
